trees of the oval
spring 2024
This class was an introduction to combining graphics, photos, and typography in an applicable manner. We worked in Photoshop primarily, which helped me gain skill in that. The first challenge we had was to create two card sets for an assigned tree and a topic surrounding the environment. I chose the Honeylocust, known for its distinct yellow leaves, exploring the idea of appreciating your environment through the use of texture, layer blending, and color.

Left: Front of card. Right: Back of card.

The second card dealt with the broader topic of addressing deforestation through the lens of human society.
Our second project was to create an accordion book about trees. I chose to expand upon the idea behind my second card and visualize progress in human society in relation to tree systems. I was initially inspired by stories of age-old trees being cut down by mistake. It made me think about the role of humans in trees' lifespans. The book goes in depth in major events from the beginning of the world to now with emerging technology.
