campus on shuffle
autumn 2022
A lot of this project involved the technique of slow looking, as well as finding a way to translate things we sense and feel in real life onto paper. For my map, I chose to encapsulate the feeling music gives me as I walk around campus. I made the architecture tour an interactive experience, incorporating both music and silence into the walk. There are points at which you are to take off your headphones and listen to the sounds around you, while at other stops, there are specific songs to play as you walk outside or inside buildings. I correlated the songs with the architecture styles of the structures as well as a more vague sense of how they make me feel. For example, “Sincerity is Scary” by The 1975, used for Knowlton Hall, utilizes heavy, thumping percussion, reminding me of the strong, concrete foundation of Knowlton. Overall, I built on techniques from the last Visualizations project, this time adding color to the mix and doing more to illustrate emotions and senses themselves.
