patterned cards
autumn 2022
This project was a great example of exploring a broad scope of ideas. I began with an entirely different concept than I ended up with, with plenty of ideas in between that differed greatly from both the beginning and final piece. In the final composition, I created a pattern of koi fish, waterlilies, and leaves, both in color and greyscale. I arranged the pattern to give the viewer a feeling of calm, through both the composition of each element and in its placement on the card. The fish mimic the famous koi dance, where koi glide around one another in water. I improved my craft greatly from my first physical project, as it was one of my main goals for where I needed to improve. I learned a lot about the limitations of any design project, specifically with time, materials, cost, and machine capability, and though the process itself was a bit of a rollercoaster, I sold one of these cards at the winter market!
