This project expanded upon the idea of using 2D materials to accentuate and produce depth, as well as understanding and prototyping with materials. The ideation phase was extremely bumpy for me, but I learned a lot about not losing sight of original intent in design. Each project had to have a hidden surprise element that was shown only when the layers were lit up from behind. My hidden element was Icarus’ wings made of circuit boards, feeding into my concept of a modernization of the myth of Icarus and his fall from the sky. It was interesting to explore different methods of exaggerating depth in a space that lacks it, but I utilized dramatic perspective and scale in my project to achieve this.
